Abitibi-Témiscamingue is a resource region in western Québec: 22,000 lakes, boreal forest, gold mines and two working towns, Rouyn-Noranda and Val-d'Or. There is no single landmark that justifies the trip on its own. Come for canoeing, fishing, snow, and a look at how a mining region actually works. Distances are long and buses are thin, so a car is close to essential.
