Bhojpur
Half-day trip from Bhopal: see the unfinished Bhojeshwar Temple with its giant Shiva lingam, then return. Not worth an overnight stay.
Bhojpur is a small town 25 km from Bhopal, known for the 11th-century Bhojeshwar Temple. The main attraction is a 7.5 ft monolithic Shiva lingam on a 21 ft platform — the only lingam you can walk around. The temple was never finished, but the scale is impressive. Most visitors come from Bhopal for a morning or afternoon, then leave.
