Blumenau is a German-founded city in the Itajaí Valley, 3rd largest in Santa Catarina, known for its Oktoberfest (world's second largest beer festival) and German-style architecture. It is a 2-night stop, not a beach base. Come in October for the festival, or Apr–Dec for mild walking weather.

Walk Centro (Rua XV de Novembro, Beira-Rio, Praça Hercílio Luz) — pleasant Apr–Dec, hot Jan–Mar. SETERB buses (yellow/light blue) run six terminals; transfers inside terminals are free. Line 33 links Fonte–PROEB via Beira-Rio and Rua 7 de Setembro. Red air-conditioned buses serve downtown and stop only at Garcia and PROEB terminals — flag them down. Taxis are expensive; a taxi from the bus station to downtown is about R$15. Scams and watch-outs

Summer (Jan–Mar) is extremely hot with almost daily late-afternoon rain; plan indoor or early activities.
Sidewalks outside Centro are uneven and hilly — take care in neighbourhoods.
The bus station area is described as unsafe; keep bags close and avoid lingering at night.
BR-470 is dangerous; prefer SC-470 (Rodovia Governador Jorge Lacerda) via Itajaí, Ilhota and Gaspar if driving.
Restaurants outside upscale places rarely speak English; German may help more than English.
Frohsinn adds a R$6 per person couverto and 10% service — ask before accepting.

Centro is fine by day; the bus station area is unsafe and taxis are expensive. Summer heat and daily rain are the real risks; ask prices before sitting in bars and check the couverto at Frohsinn.
