The central coast is the entry point: the airport at Maiquetía sits on the La Guaira coast and Caracas is a mountain drive above it. The M7.2 and M7.5 earthquakes of 24 June 2026 hit this area hardest: La Guaira was devastated, towers collapsed in eastern Caracas (Altamira, Los Palos Grandes), and the airport was badly damaged; limited commercial flights resumed from temporary facilities on 1 September 2026 (check).
