This is the stretch of coast and wadi country between Muscat and Duqm: the Bimmah Sinkhole, Wadi Shab, Wadi Tiwi, Wadi Bani Khalid, the turtle beach at Ras al-Jinz and the old port of Qalhat. Almost nobody sleeps here for a week. Drive it as a two- to three-night leg of the coastal road, with Sur as the base, or skip it and fly to Duqm if you are heading south.

Wadi Shab and Wadi Tiwi flood after winter rain and the paths wash out; check conditions before you commit.
Majlis al Jinn is not a walk-in cave: access is by 200 m rope rappel and a government permit, on a rough 4WD track.
