- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- Canada ↗Visa-exempt travellers flying to or through Canada usually need an eTA; check your passport on the official Government of Canada site (canada.ca) and apply only there.
- Canada ↗A Parks Canada pass is needed to stop in national parks such as Banff and Jasper; some spots (for example Moraine Lake) are reached only by shuttle or tour, so book ahead.
- Canada ↗Keep well away from bears, elk and moose; carry bear spray on Rockies trails and follow trail closures.
Chaudière-Appalaches is the south shore of the St. Lawrence between Lévis and Rivière-du-Loup, plus the inland Beauce valley. With a car it is a 2–3 day run of riverside villages, Grosse-Île and maple country. Without one, stay on the Lévis–Montmagny corridor and treat the Beauce as a separate trip.

- Lévis or Montmagny 2 nights; Grosse-Île and the Côte-du-Sud villages

- Add one night in Beauce (Saint-Georges) for sugar shacks and back roads
- Grosse-Île and Île-aux-Grues boats are seasonal and tide-dependent; confirm sailing times the day before.
- Winter driving on secondary Beauce roads is snow-covered; snow tires are required in Quebec in winter.
Day-trips door to door
| To | From | Door-to-door p50 | Last return | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Grosse-Île | Montmagny | 90 min | check | Seasonal boat from Berthier-sur-Mer; boat plus national historic site admission about $60 per person. |
| Saint-Jean-Port-Joli | Montmagny | 35 min | check | Drive on Route 132; sculpture workshops and riverside stops. |
| Saint-Georges | Lévis | 75 min | check | Autoroute 73 south; Beauce maple farms and a miniature village. |
Bags between cities
Luggage forwarding is uncommon here; most travellers drive, so bags stay in the car. If you go car-free, hotels in Lévis and Montmagny will usually hold bags for a same-day return, but there is no routine next-day courier link between the river villages and Beauce — plan to carry what you need.

- Humid continental: mild summers, cold winters with heavy snow. Snow geese pass in spring and fall; maple harvest runs late March into April.
Summer and early fall are the easiest months for the river villages; late March suits sugar shacks but trails are still muddy.
