Clapham is a Dales village of about 600 people, off the A65 between Settle and Kirkby Lonsdale. Its pull is underground: Ingleborough show cave and the Gaping Gill pothole complex. On foot. The village is tiny; the cave trail starts at the top of Riverside. Clapham station is 1.5 miles west with no ticket office, no toilets and a footbridge to Platform 2 with no step-free route. Lonsdale Bus 581 links Kirkby Lonsdale, Ingleton, Austwick, Giggleswick and Settle, six days a week, no Sunday service. Dales Bus 832 runs Sundays April to mid-October from Hawes via Settle and Ingleton.
