Courtenay is the service town of the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island's east coast, about 26,000 people, with Comox and Cumberland next door. It is a base, not a sight in itself: the draw is Mount Washington, the Puntledge and Courtenay rivers, Seal Bay and Kitty Coleman, plus the K'ómoks cultural sites. BC Transit Comox Valley runs 13 routes from the Cliffe Ave stop in downtown Courtenay: Route 1 to Comox, Route 11 to the airport and Little River ferry, Route 10 south to Fanny Bay and Buckley Bay. A car is faster for Mount Washington, Nymph Falls and Kitty Coleman. Taxis run 24 h.
