Dindigul district sits in the rain shadow of the Western Ghats, a dry corridor of lock factories, banana plantations and temple towns. The town itself is a transport hub for Kodaikanal and Palani, but the district has its own draws: Sirumalai's trekking trails, Batlagundu's fruit markets, and the Sungudi saree weavers of Nilakottai. Most visitors sleep in Dindigul town and do the rest as day-trips.
