Dufftown
Base in Dufftown for 1–2 nights if you want distillery tours on foot; skip it as a day trip from Elgin unless you have a car or the heritage train.
Dufftown is a small Speyside village built around whisky: Glenfiddich, Balvenie, Mortlach and others sit within walking distance of the clock tower. The village itself takes half a day; the reason to stay is tours, tastings and the Speyside Way. Without a car you are limited to what is walkable plus the heritage railway to Keith.

- Rural roads are single-track in places with passing places; drive on the left.
- Mobile signal is patchy: 4G from most networks in the village, poor from O2, no 5G. Download maps and tickets offline.
Very low crime; the real risks are rural roads, weather that changes fast, and driving after tastings. Book a taxi or a driver if you plan to drink.
