Eccleshall
Half a day is enough: walk the Georgian High Street, see Holy Trinity Church and Eccleshall Castle, then Gentleshaw Wildlife Centre.
Eccleshall is a small Staffordshire market town 7 mi (11 km) north-west of Stafford and 6 mi west of Stone, with a 1195 church, a castle that was the Bishop of Lichfield's palace, and a Georgian conservation-area high street. The sights sit within walking distance, so one half-day to one day covers it; sleep one night only if you want the pubs and a slow start.
