Eckerö is a scattered island municipality on mainland Åland, 35–40 minutes by bus from Mariehamn and two hours by ferry from Grisslehamn in Sweden. It holds the Russian-era Mail and Customs House, a hunting and fishing museum, a guest harbour at Käringsund and some of the sunniest summer weather in the Nordic. Get around
The island is small but spread out; bus line 1 links Mariehamn and Eckerö in 35–40 minutes. A car or bicycle makes the museum, harbour and beaches reachable in one day; taxis are limited, so book ahead if you have no vehicle.

- Bus service is thin in the evening; confirm the last departure from Mariehamn.
Very safe. The real risks are thin evening buses, unlit rural roads after dark and cold water; swim only where locals do and take a light jacket even in July.
