Livingstone is a two-day base for the falls: see the falls early on the first morning while the light is low, keep midday for shade, take the Zambezi at sunset — and check the season, because the falls are at their fullest in March to May and lowest in October to December.
The honest verdict
Livingstone is a small, flat town about 10 km from Victoria Falls. The falls, the bridge, the river lodges and the town are all a short taxi apart, but not a walk. The trips that go wrong go in the low-water months expecting a wall of water, walk the park in the noon heat, or forget that the Zambezi side and the Zimbabwe side are different border crossings with different visa rules. Four clusters cover a first visit; the bush camps are separate flights.

Three mistakes to avoid
- Curio sellers and self-styled guides at the falls and the bridge who insist on a price and follow you: say a firm no thank you and keep walking, or agree the price before you take anything.(Scams)
