Maihar
मैहर
Give Maihar one day: train in, auto to Sharda Temple, ropeway or 1,000+ steps up, Alha Pond and the market, then leave.
Maihar is a 40,000-person pilgrimage town in Madhya Pradesh and the former capital of the princely state of Maihar. The Sharda Temple sits on the hill above town; you reach it by auto-rickshaw, by a daytime ropeway that takes about 5 minutes, or on foot up more than 1,000 steps. Half a day covers the temple, Alha Pond and the market, so most travellers pass through on the rail line rather than sleep here.
