1. Confirm whether your passport needs a visa for the trip you plan. Ask the Malaysian Immigration Department or the nearest Malaysian embassy or consulate; the answer depends on your nationality and purpose of visit.

2. Confirm the maximum stay allowed on arrival for your passport, and whether it can be extended inside Malaysia. Do not book a longer trip on an assumed number of days.

3. Confirm the passport validity rule. Many countries require a set number of months beyond arrival or departure; get the current figure from the same official source.

4. Confirm whether an online arrival card, electronic travel authorisation or health declaration is required for your route, and how far in advance it must be submitted.

5. Carry proof of onward or return travel and accommodation details, since border officers may ask for them. Whether they are mandatory is a point to confirm, not assume.

6. If you plan to work, study or stay long-term, confirm the correct pass or permit before travel. Tourist entry does not cover these purposes.
