Marsaxlokk
Half-day trip from Valletta or Sliema, best on a Sunday morning for the fish market. Sleep in Valletta or Sliema: Marsaxlokk has very few beds and goes quiet after lunch.
Marsaxlokk is a working fishing village on Malta's south-east coast, known for its traditional luzzu boats and the Sunday fish market, said to be the best place in the country for fish. The waterfront has a row of restaurants where you can eat outside, a small beach of about 50 m on the north-east side of the bay, and a walk of about 40 minutes over the hill to St. Peter's Pool. Most visitors come for the market and lunch, then leave. A guesthouse or two exists in the village, but Valletta or Sliema gives you more choice and an evening.
