  • Türkiye (Turkey) ↗Check whether your passport is visa-exempt; if it is not, apply only at evisa.gov.tr — lookalike sites charge extra and some sell nothing.
  • Türkiye (Turkey) ↗At mosques cover shoulders and knees, take shoes off at the door, and women carry a headscarf; stay out during prayer times.
  • Türkiye (Turkey) ↗Taxis must run the taximeter; refuse flat quotes, or book through BiTaksi or Uber so the ride is logged.
  • Türkiye (Turkey) ↗Carry lira in small notes for tea, markets, tips and toilets; prices move with inflation, so treat every printed price as dated.
  • Türkiye (Turkey) ↗Do not take stones, coins or tiles from ancient sites, and export no antiques without a museum certificate; travellers have been detained at airport customs.

Mediterranean Turkey (Akdeniz Bölgesi) follows the southern coast beneath the Taurus Mountains, from the Lycia and Pamphylia areas in the west to Cilicia and Hatay in the east. It is known for beaches, ancient ruins and coastal boat trips. Distances are long, so choose one or two bases rather than trying to cover the whole coast on a short trip.

Open Plan the nightsClose Plan the nights3 partsNights · Day-trips · Bags

Night sequences

5 nights
Antalya 3 + Fethiye 2; allow time for the road journey between bases.
7 nights
Fethiye 3 + Kaş 2 + Antalya 2; a one-way coast trip with several travel days.
10 nights
Add Adana and Hatay; check current transport connections before fixing the route.
  • The D400 follows much of the coast, but sections such as Alanya–Anamur are narrow and winding; allow extra driving time.
  • Take care against heat and dehydration in the southern coastal climate.
  • Check current government travel advice before visiting Hatay.

Bags between cities

Luggage forwarding between bases is usually next-day (D+1); the receiving hotel must accept it. On bus and minibus routes you carry your own bags, so pack light for one-way coast trips.

Coast
Coastal summers are dry and can exceed 35 °C (95 °F). Winters are rainy and can bring strong winds and storms; snow is rare at sea level. Sea temperatures are above 25 °C (77 °F) from May to October.
Lakes District
The inland climate differs from the coast, with hot dry summers and cold, snowy winters.

Coastal spring and autumn suit sightseeing; September is a good option for swimming with less summer heat. Check conditions and accommodation availability for your dates.
