Michelle's Island
Break your trans-Guyana trip here for 1–2 nights: a cheap, quiet riverside retreat with basic cabañas, home-cooked food and a short walk to Iwokrama's nature.
Michelle's Island is a privately owned island on the Essequibo River near Kurupukari. It offers a handful of simple cabañas, a small beach, mango trees and a tiny waterfall. The owner runs a snackette on the mainland and can cook meals. It's a low-cost alternative to Iwokrama River Lodge, which is a short walk away. Most travellers stay 1–2 nights as a break between Georgetown and Lethem.
