Nagapattinam is a small coastal district in Tamil Nadu, 30 km of shore between the Velankanni shrine and the Point Calimere sanctuary. Two nights in the town covers both; a third buys a slow morning at Kodiakkarai. Pilgrimage traffic peaks in August and September, when beds in Velankanni fill and prices jump.

- 3 nights
- Nagapattinam 3: add a dawn birdwatching run to Kodiakkarai and a slow afternoon
- The sanctuary at Kodiakkarai has restricted hours and a forest permit; confirm the current entry rules before you set out.
- August–September is the Velankanni feast season: lakhs of pilgrims, full hotels, blocked roads. Book weeks ahead or avoid those weeks.
- The coast is exposed and currents are strong; swim only where locals do, and not at dusk.
