Nejd is the central highland: the provinces of Riyadh, Al-Qassim and Ha'il, with Riyadh as its capital and by far its biggest draw. Most first trips should treat Nejd as Riyadh plus Diriyah, with the Edge of the World as a day trip. Al-Qassim (Buraydah, Onizah, Al-Aflaj) and Ha'il (Jubbah rock art) reward a second visit, but they are 4–7 hours apart by road and thin on public transport — go only with a car or a tour, and only between November and February.

  • Riyadh + Buraydah + Ha'il in 3 days is mostly driving; each leg is 4–7 hours.
  • Summer (June–August) is 40 °C (104 °F)+ inland; sightseeing outside early morning and after sunset is uncomfortable.
  • The Edge of the World track is unsealed and easy to get stuck on; do not attempt it alone in a saloon car.
