  • India ↗Carry Indian rupees in small notes (10, 20, 50, 100); change for 500 is often refused.
  • India ↗Parts of the Northeast, Sikkim, Ladakh, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and all border belts need a Protected or Restricted Area Permit or an Inner Line Permit for foreigners; check before you book the route.

North 24 Parganas is the most populous district of West Bengal, stretching from Kolkata's northern suburbs to the rural borderlands along the Ichamati River and the edge of the Sundarbans. Its main draws are the colonial-era towns of Barasat and Bongaon, the riverine life around Basirhat, and day‑trip access to the Sundarbans mangrove forest. Sleeping in Kolkata and commuting by train or taxi is faster and cheaper than changing hotels.
