The Northeast High Country is Georgia's mountain corner: the state's highest peaks, the southern start of the Appalachian Trail, and small towns 30–90 minutes apart by car. There is no useful train between them, so pick one base and day-trip. Helen for a walkable base with lodges and tubing, Blue Ridge for cabins and the scenic railway, Clayton for the quietest access to the big hikes and Tallulah Gorge.

Distances look short on the map but mountain roads cut average speed; do not stack three far-apart sights in one day.
