Örebro sits on the Närke plains in south-central Sweden, built around a moated castle on the Svartån river where it meets lake Hjälmaren. It is a compact, walkable city — the castle, the open-air museum Wadköping and the city park sit within about 2 km of each other — and it works as a stop on the Stockholm–Gothenburg corridor rather than a destination in itself.
