It works as a two-night stop on a Southwestern Colorado loop between Durango and Alamosa, or as a winter base for Wolf Creek Ski Area. The town centre is walkable; everything else needs a car.

Get around
The historic centre around Hot Springs Blvd and Pagosa St is small and walkable in 10–15 minutes. Everything else — the west strip, uptown, Chimney Rock, Wolf Creek — needs a car. A town bus has run in the past but service changes; check locally before relying on it. Hitchhiking between uptown and downtown is common locally but not a plan.
