Ravenna province is a compact strip of coast, plain and low hills east of Bologna. The city of Ravenna holds the reason to come: five UNESCO monuments lined with 5th- and 6th-century Byzantine mosaics. The rest of the province — Cervia's beach, Faenza's ceramics museum, the hill village of Brisighella — works as day-trips from a Ravenna base. Sleep in Ravenna 1–2 nights; skip the hotel change.
