Río Muni is Equatorial Guinea's mainland region — rainforest, the Muni Estuary, and a handful of towns. Bata is the transport hub with the airport and the longest seafront promenade in Central Africa. Sleep there and day-trip to Monte Alén National Park (rainforest hikes, 1–1.5 h drive), Mongomo (the giant basilica, 2 h drive), and the Muni Estuary (boat trips, 1 h drive). A night in Mongomo saves driving time if you want to see the basilica at sunrise.
