- Greetings: Greet with 'as-salamu alaykum'; handshakes are common between men, and women visitors should wait for a woman or man to offer.
- Dress: Loose, modest clothing that covers shoulders and knees in public; a light scarf is useful for mosques.
- Prayer times: Shops and some restaurants pause for prayer; plan around them and do not walk in front of people praying.
- Photos: Do not photograph women, families, government buildings, military sites or airports without permission.
- Eating: Eat with the right hand; accept coffee and dates when offered and shake the cup gently to decline more.
- Ramadan: Do not eat, drink or smoke in public in daylight; many restaurants open after sunset.
