South Chhattisgarh is the forested, tribal belt of the state — Bastar district's waterfalls, weekly haat markets, and the Chitrakoot and Tirathgarh falls. Jagdalpur is the only real base with hotels and transport; Kanker and Dantewada are day-trips. The region is off the mainstream tourist trail, so expect basic infrastructure and limited English.
