The South Pacific splits into two trips. The Costanera Sur coast (Dominical, Uvita, Ojochal) is a beach-and-waterfall base 3–4 hours from San José on paved road. The Osa Peninsula (Puerto Jiménez, Drake Bay, Cabo Matapalo) is a separate rainforest trip reached by a 5-hour drive, a 40-minute flight or a boat from Sierpe. Pick one; combining both eats a day in transit each way.

Driving San José to Puerto Jiménez is about 5 hours on Route 245; rivers can close the road in the wet season.
Many Osa lodges are off-grid: power, hot water and internet are not guaranteed.
Do not swim alone and watch for rip currents on the open Pacific beaches.
