Sūduva is the southwest quarter of Lithuania: Kaunas, the spa town of Birštonas, Marijampolė and the farmland between them. It is the region you cross if you come overland from Poland, and the one most travellers skip on the way to Vilnius. Kaunas holds the sights and the beds; Birštonas and Marijampolė are short trips out of it. Two nights in Kaunas plus one side trip is enough unless you are here for the spas.
