Takoma Park is an 18,000-person Maryland suburb on the DC line, known for its Victorian Old Town, activist history and tree-heavy hills. Almost everything worth seeing sits within a 6-block walk of the Takoma Metrorail station, which is itself in Washington, DC. Treat it as a half-day or one-night add-on to a DC or Silver Spring trip, not a destination in its own right.

Get around

Old Town is walkable in 15–20 min end to end, but the town is hilly: some side streets climb about 50 ft in a block. Metrorail Red Line and Metrobus/Ride On connect to DC and Silver Spring. A car helps for the Langley Park/International Corridor restaurants and Sligo Creek Trail trailheads.
