The permit
- Who issues it
- Yamanashi Prefecture (Yoshida trail) and Shizuoka Prefecture (Subashiri, Gotemba, Fujinomiya)
- How to get it
- Apply yourself. Reserve or register online before you go; Shizuoka also asks climbers to complete a short online safety course.
- Lead time
- 7 days+ · Book huts weeks ahead for July–August weekends; reservations open in spring (check).
- Cost (check)
- ¥4,000 per climber on all four trails, unchanged for 2026; Yoshida Trail capped at 4,000 climbers a day, and Shizuoka trails need online pre-registration (check).
- Documents
- Online reservation or QR code
- Hut booking if climbing after the gate closes
- If you skip it
- Staff turn back climbers without a hut booking after closing time and anyone attempting a 'bullet climb'; climbing off-season needs a separate notification and is discouraged.
