Uluberia
উলুবেড়িয়া
Half-day from Kolkata: train to Phuleswar for the Kali temple and riverbank, then back the same day. Check ferry service to Budge Budge at the ghat before you plan the crossing.
Uluberia is an industrial town on the west bank of the Hooghly in Howrah district, about 30 km from Kolkata via Vidyasagar Setu, Kona Expressway and NH 16. The draw is the riverside Kali temple and a quiet riverbank; Wikivoyage also lists a ferry across to Budge Budge. Treat it as a short detour from Howrah or a stop on a South 24 Parganas loop, and check how long you need once you know the ferry and temple timings.

Scams and watch-outs

A quiet town; standard India precautions apply. The riverbank is slippery after rain, and the ghat area is not a place to walk alone after dark.
