Victoria Falls is a two-or-three-day town: see the falls at opening, rest through the heat, take the bridge and the river in the late afternoon, and use a taxi after dark, because elephants and other animals walk the streets.
The honest verdict
The falls are 2 km from town, the heat peaks at midday and, from March to May, the spray can hide the view and soak you. The trips that go wrong walk between hotels after dark, arrive with too little cash in small notes, or plan Hwange or Chobe on the same day as the falls. Four areas cover a first visit; the safari is a trip away from one kept bed.

- US dollars are the everyday currency; the local ZiG is also legal tender. Cards work at larger hotels and some restaurants, but bring cash in small notes.
- Cash
- Bring US dollars in small, clean notes; ATMs in town can run out of cash and cards fail outside hotels, so keep US$100 in small notes as a reserve.
- SIM

- Greet first with 'good morning' and a handshake; asking 'How are you?' is expected before business.

- Ask before you photograph people. Never photograph the border post, police, soldiers or government buildings.
