Yulara
Stay 2 nights in Yulara: one sunset and one sunrise at Uluru, plus Kata Tjuta. Three nights if you add Field of Light or a long drive day.
Yulara is the resort village just outside Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park, built in the 1980s as the accommodation base for the rock. Everything — hotels, campground, supermarket, fuel, galleries — sits on a 3 km loop road, with free shuttles and walkable paths. You come here for two or three nights, not a week: the park is the point, and the village empties each afternoon while tours are out viewing Uluru.

Scams and watch-outs

- Flies are seasonal and can be intense; a head net is not a joke.
- Summer heat (Dec–Feb) regularly tops 40°C; walk Uluru early or late, never midday.
- The nearest hospital is in Alice Springs; the local medical centre has a GP and remote nurses but no pharmacy.
Very safe for tourists; the real risks are heat, distance and driving at dusk when wildlife is on the road. Carry water, tell someone your plan, and do not walk far off-track in summer.
