Zaozhuang is a small city in southern Shandong, known for the Taierzhuang battle and the railway guerrillas of the 1940s. Taierzhuang Ancient City is the headline sight; the city also has memorial halls, a forest park at Baodugu and the Weishan Lake wetlands. Zaozhuang sits on the Beijing–Shanghai high-speed line, so it works as a short stop between Jinan, Beijing and Shanghai rather than a base.

Zaozhuang has a BRT network; buses show Chinese and English stop displays and announcements, and staff at stops can answer questions. Shizhong District is the old, denser core with narrower roads and the worst congestion. Taxis can be booked through Chinese ride apps. Shared bikes are available. Have your destination written in Chinese characters to show drivers.
