Rules in force · 7Downtown steps and steep lanes are not for wheeled suitcases
- Jordan ↗Get the visa or the Jordan Pass only on official channels; lookalike sites charge extra.
- Jordan ↗Yellow taxis must use the meter; if the driver refuses, use a ride-hailing app instead.
- Jordan ↗In Ramadan, eating, drinking or smoking in public in daylight is not accepted; hotels and tourist restaurants serve.
- Jordan ↗Do not pack a drone: import without a prior permit is refused and the drone is held at the border.
- Amman Governorate ↗Plan every leg by taxi, ride-hailing or a private driver; there is no useful rail, and buses run to their own timetable.
- Amman ↗Downtown steps and steep lanes are not for wheeled suitcases: bags go from the car to the door, never on a walk.
- Amman ↗Friday is a weekend day: many downtown shops and some sites open only after midday.

Tickets, prices and entry
Know before you go
- Named for a cinema that once stood here (Rainbow Cinema, now gone), the street is Amman's best-known walking and café strip, restored as a pedestrian-friendlier zone with wider pavements.
- It is a street to graze and sit, not a single sight: cafés, small galleries, book and craft shops line both sides.
- The famous stone steps (Al-Rainbow Street stairs) drop from the street down toward Duke's Diwan and the older houses of Jabal Amman — good for photos, a real climb back up.

Questions, photos, and where our facts come from
Questions and answers
Questions and answers
Is Rainbow Street one attraction or a whole area?
It is a street — a walk-and-graze strip of cafés and shops, not a single ticketed sight. Budget an open-ended hour or two.
Checked 2026-09-29 · Voykit desk
When is it best?
Early evening onward; midday summer sun has little shade and most of the life happens after dark.
Checked 2026-09-29 · Voykit desk
Can I walk from here to Downtown?
Yes, but it is a real downhill walk with a steep return; most visitors take a short taxi back up.
