Charlestown, Rhode IslandCharlestown

Two nights if you want beach plus Ninigret Pond; one night if you are just breaking the drive along Route 1 between Westerly and Narragansett.
Charlestown is a spread-out beach town of about 7,800 people on Rhode Island's south coast, not a walkable resort. Its draw is a three-mile barrier beach, Ninigret Pond for flat-water paddling and windsurfing, and state campgrounds. You need a car; two nights covers the beaches and the pond, and one night works as a stop on a Route 1 drive.

About Charlestown, Rhode Island
Charlestown is a seacoast town in South County, Rhode Island. It sits on the state's south coast, roughly half an hour from TF Green International Airport in Warwick. The town's main draw is its beaches, which vary in surf and are counted among Rhode Island's best. East Beach, a three-mile barrier beach, separates the Atlantic from Ninigret Pond, which is known for windsurfing and as a calmer option for children. Attractions are spread out, so a car is the usual way to get around, though locals often bicycle and beach access is easiest on foot for those staying in the beach suburbs. Canoes and other boats can be rented at local bait and tackle shops.

- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- United States ↗Check whether you need an ESTA (Visa Waiver Program) or a visa on the official CBP and State Department sites; apply only through esta.cbp.dhs.gov, not third-party sites, and allow time before you book.
- United States ↗Several popular national parks use timed-entry or vehicle reservations in peak season; check each park's page on nps.gov and book on recreation.gov before fixing your dates.
- United States ↗Medical care is very expensive for visitors; buy travel insurance with high medical cover before you fly.
- United States ↗Tipping is expected: about 15–20% at sit-down restaurants and bars, and a tip for taxis, hotel staff and guides.
