Chilliwack
Give Chilliwack 1 night as a Fraser Valley stop, or 2 if you want Cultus Lake and Bridal Veil Falls; skip it if you only have Vancouver days.
Chilliwack sits about 100 km east of Vancouver on Highway 1, at the mouth of the Fraser Canyon and below Mount Cheam. It is farmland, river and lake country rather than a city of sights: most visitors come for Cultus Lake, Bridal Veil Falls, corn stands in late summer and a cheap bed between Vancouver and Hope. One night covers the core; two nights let you add the lake and a hike.

About Chilliwack
Chilliwack is a city of 84,000 people (2016) in the Fraser Valley Regional District, east of Vancouver. It sits among tall peaks including Mount Cheam and Slesse Mountain, and between the Fraser and Vedder rivers. Its name comes from a Halq'eméylem word meaning "valley of many streams", the language of the Stó:lō First Nations. Once a small farming town, it has grown into sprawling suburbia, and efforts to revive the downtown and keep housing off farmland have been difficult.
Most of the city's cultural attractions and government buildings are on the north side, in downtown Chilliwack, while Sardis on the south side is the main shopping area. Highway 1 runs through, with the city centre reached from exits 118 and 119.

- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- Canada ↗Visa-exempt travellers flying to or through Canada usually need an eTA; check your passport on the official Government of Canada site (canada.ca) and apply only there.
- Canada ↗A Parks Canada pass is needed to stop in national parks such as Banff and Jasper; some spots (for example Moraine Lake) are reached only by shuttle or tour, so book ahead.
- Canada ↗Keep well away from bears, elk and moose; carry bear spray on Rockies trails and follow trail closures.

BC Transit runs about a dozen routes centred on Cottonwood Mall and downtown, with route 66 to Abbotsford and Langley and route 71 to Harrison Hot Springs (weekdays, plus summer Sundays). Taxis cover short hops; rideshare availability is check.
