Croton-on-Hudson
Give Croton-on-Hudson one full day plus one night: Van Cortlandt Manor, the Old Croton Aqueduct trail and Croton Point Park, 50 min by train from Grand Central.
Croton-on-Hudson is a Hudson Line village of about 8,000 people, 50 minutes by Metro-North from Grand Central. It works as a one-night base for the lower Hudson Valley or as a day trip from New York City: a Dutch colonial manor, a 19th-century aqueduct trail and a riverfront park, all within a few kilometres of the station. Two nights only if you are also doing Sleepy Hollow, Tarrytown or a hiking day.

About Croton-on-Hudson
Croton-on-Hudson is a village in Westchester County, New York, with a population of 8,100 as of 2019. In the first half of the 20th century it drew many artists, writers and communists as residents. It sits on the Hudson Line, with express trains to New York City's Grand Central Terminal taking about 50 minutes, and several Amtrak routes also stop at Croton-Harmon station. The village is a base for the lower Hudson Valley, with a Dutch colonial manor house, a trail along the old Croton Aqueduct and a riverfront park among its draws.
Croton-on-Hudson was home to many artists, writers and communists during the first half of the 20th century. The Old Croton Aqueduct, the original water supply for New York City, was built about 180 years ago and now serves as a walking trail. The Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze at Van Cortlandt Manor began in 2005.

- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- United States ↗Check whether you need an ESTA (Visa Waiver Program) or a visa on the official CBP and State Department sites; apply only through esta.cbp.dhs.gov, not third-party sites, and allow time before you book.
- United States ↗Several popular national parks use timed-entry or vehicle reservations in peak season; check each park's page on nps.gov and book on recreation.gov before fixing your dates.
