Hot and wet with cyclone risk, yet the busiest fortnight of the year around Christmas.

• Wet south-east · Suva, Pacific Harbour, Kadavurainy

  Trade winds bring rain all year; Suva gets about twice Nadi's rainfall. Drier Jul–Sep.

• Coral Coast · Sigatoka to Pacific Harbour on the Queens Roadrainy

  Between the two: sunnier than Suva, windier than the Mamanucas.

• North · Vanua Levu (Savusavu, Labasa), Taveunirainy

  Taveuni's east coast is among the wettest places in Fiji; diving visibility is best in the drier months.

• Lomaiviti Islands: Lomaiviti (Ovalau and neighbours) · Islands east of Viti Levurainy

  May–October is drier and cooler; November–April is hotter, wetter and the cyclone season. Levuka sits on the wet windward side of Ovalau, so short showers are normal even in the dry months.

• Taveuni: Taveuni · Whole island, wetter on the south-east windward siderainy

  May–October is the drier, cooler window and default for diving/hiking; November–April is hotter, wetter, and cyclone season. Rain falls any month.

• Viti Levu: West (Nadi, Denarau, Lautoka) · dry western coastrainy

  Drier than the east; May–October is the default window.

• Viti Levu: South-east (Suva, Pacific Harbour) · wet south-east coastrainy

  Rain in most months; November–April is cyclone season.

• Yasawa Islands: Yasawa Islands · the whole chain, north-west of Viti Levurainy

  May to October is the dry, cooler window and the default for a first trip. November to April is hot, humid and wet, with cyclone risk; some resorts close in the low season.
