- South Asia ↗Trekking regions, border districts and several Indian states need separate permits on top of the visa; check the permit before you book transport into them.
- South Asia ↗Remove shoes (and in many Jain and Hindu temples, leather) before entering; cover shoulders and legs; ask before photographing people or rituals.
- Maldives ↗Seaplane transfers fly in daylight only, and the last departure is set by sunset for that day; a late landing at Velana usually means a night on land and the seaplane next morning.
- Maldives ↗Local islands follow Islamic norms: alcohol is not sold, cover shoulders and knees in the village, and swimwear is for the designated tourist beach only.
- Maldives ↗Submit the online Traveller Declaration within 96 hours before arrival; airlines and immigration ask for the confirmation.
Lhaviyani (Faadhippolhu) is the northernmost atoll open to tourism. It splits cleanly: resort islands reached by 20–30 minute seaplane from Velana, and inhabited islands (Naifaru, Hinnavaru, Kurendhoo, Olhuvelifushi) reached by a five-day-a-week MTCC ferry or by speedboat. Pick the resort if you want a house reef and no planning; pick Naifaru or Hinnavaru if you want a guesthouse base and are willing to accept ferry timetables and local-island rules.

Open Plan the nightsClose Plan the nights3 partsNights · Day-trips · Bags
Night sequences
- 4 nights
- Resort island 4 nights; seaplane in and out
- 5 nights
- Naifaru guesthouse 3 nights + resort 2 nights if transfers line up
- Speedboat crossings from Malé Atoll to Lhaviyani take a couple of hours and the sea is often rough; seaplane is the smoother option.
- The MTCC ferry runs about five days a week, not daily; a missed sailing can cost a day.
- Seaplanes fly daylight only, so a late arrival into Velana usually means a night in Malé first.
Day-trips door to door
| To | From | Door-to-door p50 | Last return | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hinnavaru | Naifaru | 30 min | unknown | Ferry-dependent; confirm the day's schedule at the harbour. |
| Kurendhoo | Naifaru | 60 min | unknown | Same ferry line; few visitor facilities. |
Bags between cities
No luggage-forwarding service; you carry bags on the seaplane or speedboat, and seaplane baggage limits are strict — check with the operator.

The atoll sits north of Malé, so it sees the same monsoon pattern as the central atolls.
