Rules in force · 7Non-EU visitors get 90 days in any rolling 180-day window…
- Europe ↗Non-EU visitors get 90 days in any rolling 180-day window, counted across all 29 Schengen states together — not per country; the Entry/Exit System now logs each crossing, so an overstay is detected automatically.
- Europe ↗On the first Schengen entry since EES began, non-EU travellers give four fingerprints and a face photo at the border instead of a passport stamp; there is nothing to apply for or pay in advance.
- Nordic countries ↗Decide light or dark before anything else: summer trips (June–August) and aurora trips (September–March in the Arctic) need different countries, clothes and bases.
- Nordic countries ↗Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland and the Faroes sell stronger alcohol only in state shops with short hours; buy before evening and before Sundays and holidays.
- Denmark ↗Denmark is in the EU and the Schengen area. Check the entry rules for your passport on official sources; Greenland and the Faroe Islands have separate entry arrangements.
- Denmark ↗Bike lanes are busy fast lanes: do not walk or stand in them, and signal before you stop if you cycle.
- Denmark ↗Denmark is close to cashless: cards and phone payments work almost everywhere, even for small amounts.
Lolland-Falster is Denmark's flat, rural south: two big islands plus a scatter of small ones, joined by bridges and reached by direct train from Copenhagen. The towns are small and the sights are spread out, so the honest answer is that a car or a bike turns a thin day into a full one. Base in Nykøbing Falster for trains, food and the Medieval Centre, and treat the beaches, manor houses and bird reserves as day loops.

- Nykøbing Falster 2 nights: Medieval Centre and town on day one, coast or manor loop by car on day two
- 3 nights
- Nykøbing Falster 2 + Maribo 1, or add a beach day on the south coast
- Lolland-Falster is rural: buses can be a few a day, and some sights have no station nearby. Without a car, plan around the rail line and accept fewer stops.
- Summer is short and coastal beds fill; outside June–August some seasonal places shut.

- Lolland-Falster
- Baltic-facing and windy; June–August is the reliable window for beaches and cycling. Spring and autumn are quiet and cheap but wetter.
The islands are flat and exposed, so wind matters more than temperature. Book coastal stays early for July.
