Middelburg is a small Karoo town founded in 1852, halfway between Graaff-Reinet and Colesberg. It has a few restaurants and basic overnight rooms but no major sights. Most travellers pass through without stopping. The Grootfontein Agricultural Development Institute has a herbarium and museum, but it's a niche stop for agriculture enthusiasts.
