Coast (Arica, Iquique, Antofagasta, La Serena): Mild all year, almost no rain; sea fog (camanchaca) in winter mornings. Water is cold for swimming.
Atacama and highlands (San Pedro, Calama, Putre): The altiplano rainy season (Jan–Feb) can block highland roads; desert nights drop below freezing in winter (Jun–Aug). UV is extreme year-round.

March–May and September–December give the best mix of clear skies and manageable temperatures; July–August is cold at altitude but fine on the coast.
