Rules in force · 8Non-EU visitors get 90 days in any rolling 180-day window…
- Europe ↗Non-EU visitors get 90 days in any rolling 180-day window, counted across all 29 Schengen states together — not per country; the Entry/Exit System now logs each crossing, so an overstay is detected automatically.
- Europe ↗On the first Schengen entry since EES began, non-EU travellers give four fingerprints and a face photo at the border instead of a passport stamp; there is nothing to apply for or pay in advance.
- Central Europe ↗Six of the nine countries here — Austria, Switzerland, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary and Slovenia — charge a time-based motorway vignette, mostly digital and linked to the number plate; buy it before the first motorway past the border, because cameras, not toll booths, do the checking.
- Central Europe ↗Temporary police checks at internal Schengen borders are common in this region in 2026 (Germany, Austria, Poland, Slovenia among others — check): keep your passport on you on every cross-border train, bus and road even though there is no fixed control post.
- Poland ↗Poland is in the EU and the Schengen area: check entry rules, the EU Entry/Exit System and any travel authorisation requirement for your passport on official sources.
- Poland ↗The currency is the Polish złoty (PLN), not the euro: decline dynamic currency conversion.
- Poland ↗Most shops close on most Sundays under the trading law; small convenience stores and station shops are the exception.
- Poland ↗The border areas with Belarus and Russia's Kaliningrad region have restricted zones; follow your own government's advice before travelling near them.
Łódzkie is central Poland's rail crossroads: the A1 and A2 motorways cross here and Łódź Fabryczna is a rebuilt central station. Most travellers pass through. Stop for one reason — Łódź itself, a 19th-century textile city with a long industrial street and the country's best-known film school. Everything else in the voivodeship is a half-day add-on.

Day-trips door to door
| To | From | Door-to-door p50 | Last return | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Piotrków Trybunalski | Łódź | 60 min | check | Trains run through the day; check the last service back before an evening return. |
| Bełchatów | Łódź | min | check | Access check — the source gives no route; confirm bus or rail connections before you go. The mine itself is not a visitor site. |
| Warsaw | Łódź | 100 min | unknown | Frequent trains; a day trip is possible but Warsaw deserves its own nights. |
| Kraków | Łódź | 150 min | unknown | Direct services take about 2.5 h; better as a one-way leg than a return trip. |
Bags between cities
Left-luggage lockers exist at Łódź Fabryczna; hotel storage is the simpler option if you are returning the same day.

Łódź is an inland city break, not a beach or mountain trip — rain gear matters more than season timing.
