Saint Petersburg, FloridaSt. Pete

Give St. Pete 2–3 nights: one downtown day (Dalí, Chihuly, Pier), one beach day west, and a half-day for the trail or a ballgame.
St. Petersburg sits on a peninsula with Tampa Bay on the east and the Gulf beaches 15–20 minutes west, so a single base covers museums, a walkable downtown and the sand. It is warmer and calmer than Tampa, and most visitors pair it with the beaches rather than treat it as a stop. Two nights is the minimum; three lets you add a beach day and a day trip without rushing.

About Saint Petersburg, Florida
Saint Petersburg lies at the base of the Tampa Bay peninsula in Pinellas County, Florida, and has a quieter social atmosphere than nearby Tampa. Water surrounds the city on three sides, making it a strong base for fishing, sailing and beach wandering. Downtown has been promoted as an arts and entertainment destination, with arts and crafts stores, galleries, museums, cafes and boutique food shops within a couple of blocks of the Tampa Bay waterfront. In 2020 the city had 258,000 residents, and the metropolitan area counted 2.1 million.
A free booklet called the Downtown St. Petersburg Guide & Map is updated each season and lists maps, trolley routes, museums, events, restaurants and hotels, with coupons; it is available in dispensers downtown and in many businesses.

- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- United States ↗Check whether you need an ESTA (Visa Waiver Program) or a visa on the official CBP and State Department sites; apply only through esta.cbp.dhs.gov, not third-party sites, and allow time before you book.
- United States ↗Several popular national parks use timed-entry or vehicle reservations in peak season; check each park's page on nps.gov and book on recreation.gov before fixing your dates.
- United States ↗Medical care is very expensive for visitors; buy travel insurance with high medical cover before you fly.
- United States ↗Tipping is expected: about 15–20% at sit-down restaurants and bars, and a tip for taxis, hotel staff and guides.
