Sanguem is the gateway to Dudh Sagar Waterfall, one of India's tallest, and the Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary. The town itself is a small market centre with a temple; the main draw is the waterfall and the wildlife park. Most travellers visit as a day-trip from South Goa's coastal towns.

Monsoon June–September brings heavy rain and leeches on trails; the waterfall is at its most powerful. November–February is dry and pleasant for hiking.

The best time for the waterfall is the monsoon (July–September), but the park trails can be slippery and leeches are common. For hiking and wildlife, November–February is more comfortable.
