Sharjah is the UAE's museum emirate: a restored heritage quarter, a walled old town and the country's strongest collection of Islamic art and archaeology, 30–60 minutes from Dubai by road. It is also dry — no alcohol is sold in the emirate outside a members' club and the airport — and it has almost no public transport, so plan on taxis or a rental car. The emirate is not one piece: the main block sits next to Dubai, while Kalba and Khor Fakkan are exclaves on the Gulf of Oman, 2 hours east and a separate trip.

Night sequences
- 0 nights
- Day trip from Dubai: heritage quarter + one or two museums, back before evening
- 1 nights
- One night in Sharjah city to do the museums properly and see the corniche at dusk
- 3 nights
- Two nights Sharjah city + one night Khor Fakkan or Kalba on the east coast with a car
- Friday and evening rush hour between Sharjah and Dubai can add 60–90 minutes; do not schedule a flight on the same afternoon.
- Sharjah has no metro and no tram; assume taxis for every museum-to-museum move.
- The emirate's three parts are not contiguous — Khor Fakkan and Kalba are reached through other emirates, not from Sharjah city directly.
Day-trips door to door
| To | From | Door-to-door p50 | Last return | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Khor Fakkan | Sharjah city | 120 min | unknown | East-coast exclave on the Gulf of Oman; car or taxi only, no useful bus. |
| Dibba | Sharjah city | 150 min | unknown | Northern east coast; pair with Khor Fakkan rather than doing both as separate runs. |
| Dubai | Sharjah city | 45 min | unknown | Inter-emirate bus from Al Jubail station, about 1 hr and AED 12 (2026 estimate); nol card needed. |
Bags between cities
No rail link between Sharjah and Dubai; luggage moves by taxi or the inter-emirate bus, where a large case counts as a passenger's hand luggage — check with the operator. Hotels in Sharjah city hold bags before check-in, so a day trip from Dubai can drop bags there.
