Southern Dobruja is Bulgaria's grain plain: flat farmland between the Danube and the Black Sea, with the country's first two capitals at Pliska and Veliki Preslav, a Roman tomb at Silistra and the bird wetlands of the Danube. It is not a resort region. Come for history and quiet, sleep in Dobrich or Silistra, and treat the coast as a separate trip.
